My lack of blogging as of late is not indicative of anything other than my being either too busy or too tired to spend much time on the computer. Our pace of life has far exceeded my ability to keep up with each activity, so here’s a catch-up post to bring us up-to-date.
Trimming the Tree
Knowing that our December was going to be packed full with visitors and activity, we hauled out our Christmas gear a few days after Thanksgiving so we could get to work! It was our best tree decorating time yet! Now that Noah is almost 4, the danger/hassle factor was significantly lower. The boys were helpful and excited and really worked hard to make our home cheerful and bright.
Baking Christmas Cookies
One afternoon early in December we invited some friends over to make cookies. We did some traditional sugar cookies and some lemon shortbread. With 12 kiddos and 3 Mommas, it was loud and fun and messy! We ate and played and decorated, and everyone took cookies home for Daddy.
For years the boys have begged me to make a gingerbread house, but I’ve always refused because of the work that it would take to make it happen. A few weeks before Christmas, I came across a pre-baked gingerbread house set that was for sale in a bakery in our capital city. The $5 price tag was just right, and I ran home to show Nate, my sous chef. He was so excited! We immediately began planning the different types of candy that we could use to decorate the house. It took a few days of gathering and planning ( and we ultimately used hot glue instead of frosting to hold it all together – Shhh!), but I think it turned out rather charming.
